EMT Ambulance (Emergency Medical Transport)

  • coverage in Stark, Columbiana, Harrison, Carroll and Belmont Counties in Ohio as well as in the northern panhandle of West Virginia (as Tri-State Ambulance)

The use Nextels most of the time but have a presence on various business repeaters in Eastern Ohio and also have some MARCS radios and operate on TG 64608 for the Belmont / WV areas because Nextel coverage is often poor in that area.

Carroll Co area

453.6125 / 458.6125 repeater – 032 DPL ( WPXB519 )

Belmont Co / Ohio Co WV and Marshall Co WV area

possibly on TG 64608 – of the Ohio MARCS trunked system (per Mylan)

I believe EMT currently has some MARCS equipment loaned to them for testing, which is why EMT is showing up on TG 64608 (a DAS talkgroup). In hearing their testing, I’d think EMT will find the MARCS system to be very reliable for them. However, I’m not sure they would want to switch their whole fleet over to MARCS. I imagine they pay a lot less a month (and already have the radio equipment) for the various 400 Mhz business repeaters that they currently use. If EMT stays with MARCS to provide coverage for the Belmont Co area, you’ll likely find them on a dedicated talkgroup in the future.

It is now official. Air Evac will be relocating its local base of operations to Wetzel County Hospital. The Wetzel County Commission and Wetzel County Building Authority executed a lease with the emergency air transportation company Dec. 8.

Bradley Troy, Air Evac’s program director, said the company is excited about the move and they are currently in the process of finding someone to construct a needed hangar and helipad near the existing helipad at WCH.

Helicopter Drawing Concerns

NEW MARTINSVILLE – Concerns about noise, flight paths and even aesthetics filled the Wetzel County Hospital conference room Monday evening during a public meeting about the possibility of Air Evac EMS Inc. relocating from Ohio County to that facility.

The medical helicopter outfit has been stationed at the Wheeling-Ohio County Airport since June 2008. Company officials said the decision to leave that base stems from overcrowding of the market. They claim too many medical helicopter services are operating in the area for its relatively low population density.

Concerns Arise Over Air EVAC Relocation to Wetzel County

NEW MARTINSVILLE – Some questions and concerns about a medical helicopter company locating in Wetzel County were raised during a recent meeting between officials from Air EVAC Lifeteam and the Wetzel County Commission.

Andy Arthurs of Air EVAC Lifeteam spoke before the commissioners to provide more information about Air EVAC’s possible relocation near Wetzel County Hospital.

The medical helicopter outfit is currently stationed at the Wheeling-Ohio County Airport. Air EVAC is in negotiations with Wetzel County Hospital for a possible site by the hospital for this medical air ambulance. To accommodate the medical helicopter there would be a hangar, office space and a mobile barrack that would house the personnel who are on-call 24 hours, seven days a week.

Air Evac: No Bad Feelings About Move

WHEELING – Air EVAC is leaving the Wheeling-Ohio County Airport because there are too many medical helicopter companies in the local market, a company spokesman said.

“The Wheeling area isn’t big enough, and there’s not a population to support all there are,” said Danny Marcum, project director for Air EVAC.

“It’s not because of competition or bad feelings. It’s simply because of the other aircraft that are serving the community. It’s not really about the number of calls. … There’s just not enough for the number of aircraft serving the area.”

Air Evac Taking Off

Local hospitals and emergency squads are bypassing the local medical helicopter firm in favor of others in Pittsburgh and Morgantown, forcing the Air Evac Lifeteam to leave the Wheeling-Ohio County Airport, according to airport manager Thomas Tominack.

Air Evac will leave the Ohio County Airport in November and relocate to Wetzel County because of a lack of calls, Tominack told Ohio County commissioners Tuesday night.

Marshall Co Fire Control simulcast

Marshall Co Fire Control – simulcast of 154.385

152.21 PL 91.5

This appears to be re-transmission of all 154.385 activity. 154.385 is simplex so if you monitor it, you have a harder time hearing the mobiles. if you monitor 152.21 you can hear the bases and can hear the mobiles better. But it is obviously in a location where it doesn’t provide full coverage to Marshall Co since mobiles sometimes are still weak.
