ID Tracker / ID Tracker II Tips & Uses
Updated: 12/29/09

The page is dedicated to the exchange of ideas for using ID Tracker.  I originally designed the program to help identify new trunk IDs for my web page.  Through the contributions of others and my own use of the software, the program has developed into a very useful tool.

If you have any ideas that you would like to share with others, please contact me.

Modes of Operation   Radio ID's

Modes of Operation

There are 3 main modes in which I use the program.

The first mode is for casual listening.  In this mode I am using ID Tracker simply for an on screen display of the scanner's activity and to expand the scanners limited number of labeled IDs.  The ID Tracker banks are set as follows:

Resume on Identified Disabled
New ID Alerts Enabled
Track Frequencies Disabled
Track Services Disabled
ID Limits Disabled
Recording Disabled
Record Mode N/A

The second and third modes are used for collecting talk group information.  In each mode I will target a single system and use the recording feature to capture audio for a day's activity.

In the second mode I attempt to record unidentified talk groups only.  I use this mode to search for possible new IDs as well as recording unknown IDs for identification purposes.  The selected bank is configured as followed.

Resume on Identified Enabled
New ID Alerts Disabled
Track Frequencies Disabled
Track Services Disabled
ID Limits Disabled
Recording Enabled
Record Mode Record Unidentified

This will cause ID Tracker to record only IDs that I have not yet flagged as being identified.

In the third mode I attempt to identify talk groups by limiting the ID search to a group of IDs.  Since IDs on a system are often grouped according to use, you can sometimes gain clues by listening to other IDs belonging to the groups.  For instance,  if you hear an identified ID say "Go to Auxiliary." then you hear the same voice on an unidentified ID immediately after that, you can be pretty sure that the unidentified ID is that groups auxiliary ID.  To set up this mode use the following settings:

Resume on Identified Disabled
New ID Alerts Disabled
Track Frequencies Disabled
Track Services Disabled
ID Limits Enabled (ID limits must be set)
Recording Enabled
Record Mode Record All

Radio ID's

With the GRE scanners supplying radio ID's, this creates another tool to track down and identify talk groups.
